Im having some major difficulties with what major to choose. I admited that I prefer IB than Finance. However, I asked around and did more research and eventually came to know that all the international business courses are theory. And Finance seems more marketable.
Please give me as much information as you can in terms of which degree I should study abroad?

The biggest difference is going to be where you study not what you study.

MBAs are just a way to get into the job market, you can get the same skill set far more cheaply by doing accountancy. Just go to the best name brand school you can get into.

f you have a real choice, Finance plus a second language would be the most marketable.

I will be graduating at the end of the year (after the fall semester). I will be receiving a degree in international business with a double major in German and possibly an economics minor. What kind of internship would be best given my educational background?

You can get micro-credit internships in developing countries such as Senegal and Ecuador. I know that GlobalNomadic.com have a good range of economic internships.

Please, if you have some experience in IB or Finance give us some feedback. I like to travel and I like different cultures etc… But most people go for MBA Finance. Is it because there more jobs in Finance? Are finance jobs boring and fun?

Do you know some graduate in any IB programs how was their careers and job perspective. Share with us!

Thank you in advance.

Finance is usually seen as more marketable. What you should keep in mind is the difference between what you want to do and where you want to go? You can certainly travel and work in different parts of the world with an MBA in finance, you don’t have to have a degree in IB just to work over seas. Most people who work abroad are actually teachers or in education and not in business.
Some of my students in Finance are working for car dealerships, and at banks as loan officers. One student is working for a company in china in the payroll department. He manages the overseas employees housing, transportation, insurance and salary.

What areas of industry can one work in, with such a degree?

You can work in a variety of different fields. From a governmental perspective you can work with your Federal Export Credit Agency (ECA), or your respective department of Foreign Affairs. You can use that degree to branch into international marketing or international consulting. You can also go the route of logistics and become a freight forwader.

You can use your skill in International Trade Finance to work at the Trade Finance desk of a bank. You can also look to working with various NGO’s like the UN, IMF, WTO, etc.

You can work with various MDB (multi-lateral development banks, like the Worldbank, Inter-American Development Bank ) or you can work for private institutions that are bidding on contracts from MDB’s or NGO’s.

I am currently in college with the intention of majoring in international business. The school that I attend recently started offering a new minor in process improvement. You can actually earn a black belt in Six Sigma by the end of the program. I was also planning on earning a minor in German. Do you think the process improvement minor could prove valuable, or should i go anther route?

Foreign language DEFINITELY! I am double majoring in International Business and Mandarine Chinese.

I attend Drake University in Des Moines Iowa and I really like it here but now I am currently majoring in Broadcast News and I want to switch to music business. The only music business Drake has is a Music degree with a focus on business and I have to do recitals and take a bunch of theory classes and thats not for me. I need a school that actually has a music business degree and preferably with a international business degree also so I can get a dual degree. Any suggestions??

One of the few legitimate schools which offers a music business degree is Indiana
University-Southeast in New Albany. Surprisingly the program is offered there and not at the more well-known school of music at IU in Bloomington. IU-SE does offer a business degree. You might be able to create an individual major to combine the subjects or to do a double major. You are looking for an unusual objective and will need to be creative in obtaining it.

I have not checked the course offerings at IU-SE in international business or how extensive the music requirements are.

Another plan might be to earn the music business bachelor’s degree at IU-SE and then earn an MBA in international business at another university. Any really worthwhile instruction in the latter field is probably most likely found at the graduate level. I would also suggest that you learn the languages of the countries where you will pursue this career.

Good luck.

I’m about to start college soon, and I’ve been thinking about getting my major in international business. My parents are a bit sketchy on my decision, and its starting to worry me. Can you earn money with an international business degree? I just want a job that will enable me to travel to other places, and this degree seemed like it would allow me to do that…

I’m also considering minoring in German, so I’ll have something else to add to my resume.

its not a bad major, but you can always change it

international business kind of limits you to doing relations with ppl from different countries and figuring out how business works elsewhere

id chose business marketing if i were you man

I think the question is pretty self-explanatory, but I am wondering if a degree in international business can also be used to prepare one’s self for a career as a travel agent or someone who works in the tourism industry. Thank you for answers in advance. :)
International business covers the trade industry while a travel agent’s job covers the leisure industry. These are two separate and unrelated occupations, even though there seems to be connection in name.

You’ll need to get a degree in hospitality (along with an agent license) to work as a travel agent.

My cousin works as a booking agent in the travel & entertainment industry.
