I’m about to start college soon, and I’ve been thinking about getting my major in international business. My parents are a bit sketchy on my decision, and its starting to worry me. Can you earn money with an international business degree? I just want a job that will enable me to travel to other places, and this degree seemed like it would allow me to do that…

I’m also considering minoring in German, so I’ll have something else to add to my resume.

its not a bad major, but you can always change it

international business kind of limits you to doing relations with ppl from different countries and figuring out how business works elsewhere

id chose business marketing if i were you man

I think the question is pretty self-explanatory, but I am wondering if a degree in international business can also be used to prepare one’s self for a career as a travel agent or someone who works in the tourism industry. Thank you for answers in advance. :)
International business covers the trade industry while a travel agent’s job covers the leisure industry. These are two separate and unrelated occupations, even though there seems to be connection in name.

You’ll need to get a degree in hospitality (along with an agent license) to work as a travel agent.

My cousin works as a booking agent in the travel & entertainment industry.

So I’m going for a bachelor’s in Business Management/ International business concentration Minor: Japanese.
What positions will I be good for once I have the degree? Is Operations Management a good place to start?

Any job anyone else does with a Bachelor’s degree. Seriously, 99% of employers could care less what your major was, so if you’d be happier earning a B.S in Art History, go for it. Sales, management, H.R, Buying/Selling, Government, Private Corporation, Non-profit, etc…

Ideally, for your skills, you’d want to find a corporation that has offices in both America and Japan, where you can put your international understanding to use.

Bachelor in International Business. How much can I expect to earn starting out. I am fluent in English and Russian

You're not going to make a six digit salary, i am sure about that.
Typically, students graduating can make from ~30,000 to 60,000 (US Dollars) depending on their abilities when graduating from school.

Your job would depend on the positions you apply to.
Even people without an international business degree can get international jobs too.

Most commonly, you can get a job at an international trading firm.

and what courses might I need to take in order to achieve this degree?

It's a business concentration, so you take the general business core like any other business student. Additionally, you take extra courses for the concentration which is usually interdisciplinary, so perhaps some entrepreneurial courses, management, finance, etc. It's more of a general jack of all trades business degree rather than something specific, such as accounting.
