48 percent of qualified low-income high school graduates are prevented from enrolling in four year institutions within two years of graduation because of cost factors. We should make sure every academically qualified student has the opportunity to go to college.

39 percent of all students with student loans, and more than half of African American and Hispanic borrowers, are graduating with unmanageable levels of student debt.

Since 1991, the percentage of young people delaying marriage because of student debt has doubled. Graduates have also cited student debt as a major factor in their decisions to purchase a home, attend for graduate school , and have children.

College catalogs …
College catalogs should be required to display a cigarette pack style warning: something like–”Warning–going to college can leave you with a lifetime of debt!!!”

It isn’t just …
It isn’t just current students who are suffering it is all the students who are carrying and paying their student debts back. We all thank the students of today for standing up and pushing back about this. Boycott Student Debts, refuse to pay! I guess it isn’t really fair they have us in such a knot, being able to garnish wages or give you a bad credit rating. What if all students deferred their loans all at once. That would create some waves perhaps?

I have put off …
I have put off going to college until I was of 24 yrs of age, so as to not have to claim my parents income for financial aid. The “Expected Family Contribution” (EFC) can really hurt you if your family cannot realistically contribute, even if Federal Aid standards expects them to. And so I have worked hard and put off much of college, while still getting engaged, starting a life with my fiance and juggling it all while having to put many of my dreams on hold.
