I received a BA in Mass Communications and I am enrolled in a Grad program for a MA in English. However, I was about a semester shy of getting a BA in History and was wondering if the school I am attending for Grad school would let me transfer those history units and let me complete a BA in History.

Second degree rules usually require that you not only complete all requirements for the new/second degree but that you earn 30 new hours that weren’t used in the first degree.

Most schools also won’t let you be enrolled at two levels (grad and undergrad) at the same time.

With 30 new hours though, you could probably earn a BA in History - but, an MA in History only takes a little more than that and if you were close to the BA already then you probably have the undergrad hours to get into an MA in History when you finish the one in English.

For career purposes - it would be beneficial to do another MA if you plan to write about history, teach in the public schools (dual area cert with Master’s +30 pay), teach in a community college (multiple content areas), or work in a museum as a curator of history with research/writing responsibilities.

No. You can’t transfer credits earned in the process of getting a degree, whether they were extra or not, once you have gotten the degree. And even if some school were to let you do that, it is likely that you would have to take their gen ed courses along with it, so you would have at least two more years to go before you would be eligible for a degree from them. Remember that the requirements for a bachelor’s degree at your undergrad school and those at your grad school are likely very different.
